Oman is located in Southwest Asia and shares its borders with United Arab Emirates, Yemen, and Saudi Arabia. The capital city of Omen is Muscat and the currency is Omani Rial. Oil has brought great wealth and prosperity to the country. About eighty per cent of the people belong to the Islamic Ibadi sect, which adopts a liberal attitude towards the women. The staple diets of Oman’s are rice, bread (lavash), along with meats like fish, lamb, mutton, and chicken. The traditional beverages of Oman are laban (salty buttermilk) and Oman version of coffee. In the rich waters of the Arabian Sea and gulf of Oman, the Omani fishermen catch 118,000 tons of fish annually. The main catches include tuna, cod, cuttlefish, sardines, and anchovies. The country exports dried fishes. Oman’s tourist spots or destinations are Royal Opera house, Oman Fjords, Quram natural Park, Corniche, Jebel Shams, and Qantab Beach.
