Tajikistan is located in Central Asia and lies between the latitude 39o 00' North and 71o 00' East respectively. The neighboring countries are Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and China. It has been torn by the civil war ever since its independence. Tajikistan has rich mineral resources, it has fourteen per cent of the world’s uranium, used for nuclear fuel, but the end of the nuclear arms has reduced its value. About six percent of the land is suitable for farming. Grapes, peaches, apples, pomegranates, persimmons, and melons and vegetables are potatoes, onions and carrots are grown in the fertile soils washed down from the mountains. The Tajik staple food is lepioshka (nan), a flat bread, meats are lamb and chicken. The climate in this country is semiarid and continental; spring begins from the month of March to May, autumn, September to November. The capital city is Dushanbe and the currency is Somoni.
