South and North Korea were one single country until 1948. In 1950, North Korea invaded the South leading to a vivacious Korean war, which devastated South Korea's economy, however, in the later years the country bounced back. Since 1394, Seoul is South Korea's Capital city. The 1988 Olympic Games were held in Seoul. The country's farmland lies in the south and west and is under permanent cultivation and the main crops are rice, wheat, barley, and root crops. South Korea's climatic conditions are distinct, where the summers hot and humid with heavy rainfall, while the winters are very cold and dry. South Korea is highly industrialized and is one of the world's leading shipbuilders and major producers of electronics and cars. The blaze of autumn color and the stunning spectacular scenery attract many tourists to this country. South Korea has strong trade links with USA, China, and Japan.
